Nerazzurri strike late – but creative failings continue

Inter Milan snatched a last-gasp draw in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final against Juventus on Tuesday courtesy of Romelu Lukaku’s penalty, but that match hardly represented a return to form for Simone Inzaghi’s men. The Nerazzurri have now gone five games without winning, and they need to get back on track before next week’s Champions League meeting with Benfica. Punters, however, may not be fully confident in backing Inter at present.

Inter have failed to score from open play in their last four matches, having fired blanks against Porto, Juventus and Fiorentina prior to Tuesday’s game – despite creating 4.5 expected goals across those three contests. Seven of the Nerazzurri’s last eight matches have now contained a maximum of two goals, and they have been shut out in three of their last five in Serie A – losing four times. With Lukaku and goalkeeper Samir Handanovic being shown red cards at the death on Tuesday, Inter’s problems continue to mount ahead of Friday’s visit to Salernitana.

Salernitana have drawn four successive games in Serie A, three of them on the road, after holding Spezia in a 1-1 stalemate last time out. Paulo Sousa has only overseen one defeat in his six matches at the helm, with their solid run keeping them comfortably outside the bottom three. Salernitana’s games have tended to be low-scoring, with five of their last seven containing under 2.5 goals, and they are looking to avenge a routine 2-0 defeat to Inter in October’s return fixture.

Salernitana could frustrate visitors

Given Inter’s poor run in the attacking third and the potential for Inzaghi to make changes ahead of Tuesday’s huge Champions League quarter-final fixture, Salernitana could be capable of frustrating them, and punters are advised to back under 2.5 goals to be scored.

Meanwhile, only Udinese (11) have recorded more Serie A draws than the hosts’ 10 this campaign. For brave correct score punters, a 1-1 draw could be worth a shot.
