Salford City Double Chance (Win or Draw)

Reason for tip

Salford stunned Preston in the first round of the EFL Cup and although their league form has been patchy this tie sets up well for them. Leeds still getting used to life under Daniel Farke, who has a number of injury issues to contend with.

Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Leeds are yet to keep a clean sheet this season and head into this tie fresh off a 4-3 win at Ipswich. Salford have only failed to score once in the early part of the campaign and bagged twice against Preston, suggesting they have the tools to trouble Leeds.

Salford City vs Leeds Predictions

  • Salford knocked out Preston in the last round of the cup
  • Leeds have won just two of their last 12 League Cup away games inside 90 minutes
  • Both sides have scored in four of Leeds’ five games in all competitions this season

Ammies up for the challenge

Salford City will be looking to claim the scalp of another Championship opponent in the League Cup when they host injury-hit Leeds on Tuesday.

The Ammies eliminated Preston on penalties in the first round of the competition – only their second-ever victory in the League Cup.

Their maiden tie in this competition was a 3-0 home defeat to Leeds and Salford are a big price to avenge that loss when the Whites return to the Peninsula Stadium.

Salford have produced a mix bag in terms of results in League Two this season, winning two of their five games, but may be catching Leeds at a good time.

Farke short on options

The Yorkshire outfit are currently without seven first-team players through injury and head coach Daniel Farke will be eager not to lose any more of his squad in what is a secondary competition for a side firmly focused on promotion.

That may force Farke to field an even less experienced side than the one that had to come from behind in the 2-1 win over Shrewsbury in the first round of the EFL Cup.

That victory and Saturday’s 4-3 win at Ipswich are Leeds’ only wins of the season and their history of being the victims of giant-killings, albeit largely in the FA Cup, makes them tough to trust.

So too does a suspect defensive record with the Whites yet to keep a clean sheet this season. Salford have only failed to score once this season and a frontline led by the imposing Matt Smith may have some joy in what promises to be an entertaining cup tie.
