Fiorentina to Win

Reason for tip

Fiorentina have won three consecutive games for the first time this season, equalling the tally of victories they managed in their previous 15 outings. Sampdoria, meanwhile, have won just once in their last 13 games in all competitions, and are yet to win any of their six home matches in Serie A this term.

Fiorentina 2-0

Reason for tip

Sampdoria have failed to score in four of their six home league games this term, hitting the net just twice. Fiorentina, meanwhile, rank seventh in Serie A for expected goals (xG) and second for shots (16.6 per game) this term, and they should be expected to put the hosts to the sword.

Sampdoria vs Fiorentina Predictions

  • Sampdoria have only won one of their last 13 games in all competitions, and that victory came against Serie A’s only winless side – Cremonese.
  • Fiorentina, meanwhile, have won three games in a row for the first time this season (in all competitions).
  • Sampdoria have only scored twice in six home Serie A games this campaign, losing four.

Can Viola’s turnaround continue?

Fiorentina wrapped up their Europa Conference League group-stage campaign by thrashing FK Rigas 3-0 on Thursday, sealing a third consecutive win in all competitions – as many victories as they had managed in their previous 15 games. Vincenzo Italiano’s men have now won four of their last six contests – only losing in a 4-3 reverse to Inter Milan – and look well placed to continue their upturn in form against struggling Sampdoria.

Indeed, Fiorentina are beginning to look like themselves in front of goal, scoring 19 goals in their last eight games after only hitting the net five times in their previous 10. Despite only scoring 13 goals in their 12 league matches, La Viola rank seventh in Serie A for expected goals (xG) and second for shots (16.6 per game) this term, and their improvement should come as no surprise after they opted to stand by Italiano and his progressive style.

Sampdoria remain Serie A’s lowest-scoring outfit with just six goals to their name this season, managing one win all campaign – against winless Cremonese. Samp have only hit the net twice in their six home league games, and have averaged under a goal per game since Dejan Stankovic took the reigns at the start of last month. Unfortunately for Samp, their creative failings have been paired with an inability to keep goals out – only Verona, Spezia and Cremonese boast worse defensive records in Serie A this season, and they look unlikely to fare much better on Sunday.

Fiorentina can punish struggling Samp

With Fiorentina turning their form around following a dire start and Sampdoria appearing destined for a season of struggle, backing the visitors for victory appears a strong play for Sunday’s game.

Meanwhile, a 2-0 Fiorentina win could represent correct score value, with Samp failing to score in four of their six home Serie A games this season, including each of their last two.
