San Jose Earthquakes vs Vancouver Whitecaps Predictions

SJ Earthquakes received a wakeup call in midweek when they were hammered 4-0 away at LAFC and have now lost their last three MLS games. Vancouver Whitecaps earned all three points at home to DC United last weekend and will be hoping that their extra time to prepare for Sunday’s match will give them the edge over SJ Earthquakes.

Despite the hosts’ poor run of late, both teams head into Sunday’s match with three defeats, one draw, and two wins from their last six matches and all the stats suggest we will be treated to plenty of goals on Sunday with a good chance of a home win.

Five of the last seven meetings between these two clubs have seen both team score and over 2.5 goals and SJ Earthquakes won the pairs’ last encounter 3-1 back in July. SJ Earthquakes went behind early on in that match but recovered to lead 2-1 at the interval thanks to goals from Qazaishvili and Wondolowski, and a second-half effort from Eriksson wrapped all three points for the visitors that day.

The performances of both sides over the last month or so almost guarantee that we will see at least three goals scored on Sunday and that both teams will get on the scoreboard, as both teams scored and over 2.5 goals were produced in four of SJ Earthquakes’ and four of Vancouver Whitecaps’ last six matches. The hosts haven’t kept any clean sheets in their last six attempts while their guests have only managed one during that same period.

SJ Earthquakes have outperformed Vancouver whitecaps this season and sit six places and eleven points ahead of the Canadians with a game in hand. Vancouver Whitecaps have been very poor defensively this season and currently possess the worst goal difference in the Western Conference, -18, but have been finding the back of the net more frequently in recent weeks and average a goal a game in their last six matches.

We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced in Sunday’s match and have predicted a final scoreline of 3-1 in favour of SJ Earthquakes. The hosts beat Vancouver Whitecaps just last month and both teams have been scoring and conceding goals on a regular basis over their last six matches which is why we’re expecting an open and end to end ninety minutes this weekend.
