Sandhausen vs Hamburg Predictions

  • Sandhausen have either won or drawn each of their last six 2. Bundesliga matches.
  • Sandhausen are unbeaten in seven home 2. Bundesliga games, four of which they’ve won.
  • Hamburg haven’t won away from home in the league since the last week in August. They’ve since gone six away games without tasting victory.

Sandhausen tough nut to crack at home

Position wise, Sandhausen don’t look like much; they’re in a modest 8th position and are seven points shy of the coveted top three. However, they’re fast becoming one of the teams to beat in 2. Bundesliga.

Thanks to a combination of scoring ability, tough defending and fighting spirit, Sandhausen come into this game having lost none of their last six 2. Bundesliga matches, three of which they’ve won. During that time, they’ve beat promotion chasers Stuttgart and have drawn with league leaders Bielefeld. Clearly, they’re not to be taken lightly.

Moreover, Sunday’s hosts have avoided defeat in each of their last seven at home, four of which they’ve won. They’ve only kept two clean sheets during that time and have conceded a total of seven goals, but they’ve scored 12 and are seemingly very good at staying in games and coming up with the goods when they matter most.

Playing away a problem for Hamburg

While the hosts have been looking very sturdy at home, Hamburg have struggled to hit their stride on the road this season. They started the campaign by winning each of their first two traveling matches, but they title hopefuls have since gone massively off the boil on their travels.

Hamburg have won none of their last six away games. They’ve only lost two of those six, so they’re not exactly getting turn over by anybody, but such a record is no doubt poor, especially when we’re talking about a side that has eyes on the title.

In recent times, Hamburg have failed to win away against the likes Kiel, Regensburg and Wehen, two of which have less points than Sandhausen, one of which is level of points with Sunday’s hosts.

Hosts being overlooked in early betting

Hamburg are one of the big boys at this level there can be no denying that, but their failure to pick up wins away from home in the last few months cannot be ignored, especially since they’re facing a host that is very good at avoiding defeat on home soil. Frankly, the hosts deserve more respect and are well worth supporting in the form ‘Sandhausen +0.25 Asian Handicap’, which yields a half win in the event of a draw and a full win in the event of a home win, which given the recent performances of the pair looks more likely than the current prices suggest.
