Santa Fe vs Oriente Petrolero Predictions

Carlos Ibarguen scored twice as Santa Fe raced into a 3-0 lead in Bolivia last week. The tie looked dead after an hour but a late goal from Jose Castillo has given Oriente Petrolero a glimmer of hope. It is little more than that in truth though.

The Bolivians are yet to win in 2016 and find themselves propping up the Bolivian top flight. Their away record in this competition is also awful. They’ve played 5 games on the road in the Libertadores in the last 10 years and have lost all of them, scoring just 1 goal and conceding 14.

Indeed they have won just 2 of their last 17 away matches in all competitions which is poor when you consider they play in the Bolivian league, which is one of the weakest in South America and it is almost impossible to see how they can get back into this tie.

Santa Fe are a good side and won the 2015 Copa Sudamericana to prove their metal as a genuine force on the continent. They’ll fancy their chances of a decent run in this competition too and should pick up another win here.

They drew 0-0 the Bogota derby against rivals Millonarios on Monday and that late goal in the 1st leg is the only time they’ve conceded in 3 outings this season. Their Copa Sudamericana success was built on solid defence and they only let in  2 goals in their final 7 matches in that competition at the back end of 2015.

Therefore there are plenty of reasons to think Santa Fe can win this to nil and they can be backed to do so at 10/11.

They have no need to go chasing goals like crazy with league action at the weekend so a solid 2-0 win might be the best bet in the correct score market and you can get that at 9/2.
