Sao Paulo vs Corinthians Predictions
This is one of the biggest derby matches in Brazil so a highly competitive game is to be expected. Corinthians have enjoyed a really good record in this fixture in recent times and although they have failed to emulate their excellent title win last term, they are still enjoying a better season than Sao Paulo.
Corinthians also come into this match in improved form having avoided defeat in their last 5 league games. They are battling hard to try and achieve a top six finish and a place in the Copa Libertadores next season and since Oswaldo de Oliveira took over as coach last month there has been a clear improvement, so they look capable of extending their good recent record against Sao Paulo here.
Sao Paulo do still come into the game as favourites thanks to their home advantage but there will be a large visiting contingent too for this one and Sao Paulo haven’t exactly got much advantage from playing at home this term. They’ve only won 44% of their home league fixtures and that record leaves them in the bottom six of the home league table. Scoring goals has been a problem for them all season and they average just 0.97 goals per game in the Brazilian top flight this year.
They’ve only won 2 of their last 8 league games so there hasn’t been much improvement in their form although they look to have just enough to edge their way to safety. There hasn’t been a time in 2016 where you could have really confidently backed Sao Paulo to win and with the visitors in decent form and boasting a good record in this Sao Paulo derby, backing Double Chance – Corinthians or Draw at 3/4 looks to offer good value here.
