Sao Paulo vs Palmeiras Predictions

  • Palmeiras are unbeaten after nine fixtures, but have drawn three of their four away games
  • Sao Paulo have won their opening four home league games
  • The last two meetings between these sides have ended in goalless draws

Palmeiras hoping to stretch unbeaten start

Sao Paulo and Palmeiras are two of the most decorated teams in Brazil’s history but it is the visitors who have enjoyed the most success recently and are also the reigning Serie A champions.

Palmeiras have made a strong start to their title defence, too, and after nine games remain the only unbeaten side in Serie A, having won five and drawn four.

Their current tally of 19 points sees them sit second in the standings behind only Botafogo and they are four points clear of eighth-placed Sao Paulo, whose record reads four wins, three draws and two losses.

But Sao Paulo are a perfect four from four at their beloved Estadio do Morumbi, where they have racked up 11 goals and conceded only three.

However, of those four victims, three of them start the weekend occupying the relegation places and more will be required against this prolific Palmeiras side.

Defences may come to the fore

Abel Ferreira’s side have drawn three of their four away league games this term, though, and they may have to settle for a point at Sao Paulo.

Interestingly, the last two meetings between these sides have finished as goalless draws and under 2.5 goals have landed in three of the last four rivalries.

Palmeiras have already been held to a 0-0 draw at Santos this season and another low-scoring stalemate may follow at Sao Paulo.
