Sassuolo vs Empoli Predictions
- Sassuolo have won five of their last eight games in Serie A.
- The Neroverdi are unbeaten in their last four on home soil, taking 10 points from those games.
- Empoli have only won one of their last 12 matches, losing seven times during that run.
Can Neroverdi bounce back?
Sassuolo have been one of Serie A’s form teams in recent months – earning seven of their 11 wins this campaign since late January. However, Alessio Dionisi’s men proved their chaotic streak remains as they slipped to a 3-0 defeat at Salernitana last week. A top-half finish remains attainable for the Neroverdi though, and they will be confident of getting back to winning ways against out-of-form Empoli on Sunday.
Indeed, Sassuolo have won five of their last eight games in Serie A, and while back-to-back away losses to Verona and Salernitana showcased the worst of the Neroverdi, their record at Mapei Stadium is strong. Dionisi’s men have posted three wins and a tight draw with Torino in their last four at home, and only seven Serie A teams have bettered their return of 24 home points this season. In fact, champions-elect Napoli are the only team to win at Sassuolo in Serie A since mid-January, and we do not expect Empoli to follow in their footsteps this week.
Empoli remain six points clear of the bottom three and look unlikely to see their Serie A status come under serious threat this term, but that fact owes much to the failings of those below them. Indeed, Paolo Zanetti’s men have only won one of their last 12 games, losing seven times during that run. The visitors have failed to score in five of their last eight following last week’s 3-0 defeat to Inter Milan, and only Sampdoria – with a pitiful 20 goals all season – have hit the net on fewer occasions than them in Serie A this campaign.
Empoli unlikely to pose real threat
Given Empoli’s dreadful run of form and Sassuolo’s strong displays at home, backing Dionisi’s men to bounce back from last week’s loss looks a prudent play.
Meanwhile, Sassuolo have only conceded once in their last three on their own turf, making them worth backing for a 2-0 victory over their uninspired visitors.
