Tough test in store for the new boys

Farense’s first priority after promotion will be to stay in the Portuguese top flight this season and they have made a decent start towards that end in their first six matches.

They have lost four of their first six outings but their Faro base has been a difficult place to visit with Chaves being seen off 5-0 and then they posted an even more impressive result when they claimed a 3-1 win over Braga.

However, they now face a sterner examination with a visit from league leaders Sporting, who have dropped just two points in their opening six games, but Farense are capable of at least finding the net so backing both teams to score could prove a sensible strategy.

Visitors look to have the edge

Sporting have won six of their seven matches this season including a Europa League success at Sturm Graz and they should have enough in the tank to claim another victory.

Farense is just the sort of place Ruben Amorim’s team should be looking to take three points if they are to be title challengers, but confidence should be high in the home camp after two strong performances on their own patch.

Whether the new boys have enough to gain another notable win is questionable though, so Sporting could edge the contest with a 2-1 scoreline.
