Seattle Sounders vs Columbus Crew Predictions

Seattle Sounders season had taken a hit before the MLS even kicked off. They were knocked out of the CONCACAF Champions League by Club America in the weeks leading up to the start of the MLS campaign, and that losing mentality carried over into the domestic game.

They began their season with a defeat at home to Sporting Kansas City and went on to lose against Real Salt Lake and Whitecaps before finally picking up their first points in a 1-0 win over Montreal Impact. They have since drawn one, won one, and lost one of their following three games, with a 3-1 loss to Colorado Rapids being their most recent failure.

This puts them down in 9th position in the MLS Western Conference, although they do have games in hand over the majority of the table.

Colorado Rapids were obviously still reeling from their MLS Cup final defeat to Portland Timbers when the new season kicked off, and an opening day defeat to the same side will have re-opened relatively fresh wounds. The 2-1 scoreline was identical to the cup final as well, so it wasn’t a great way to start the season for Columbus Crew.

It didn’t get much better afterwards either. They have against Philadelphia Union the following weekend before drawing against Chicago Fire and FC Dallas and losing to Montreal Impact, taking their record to three defeats and two draws from their opening five games of the season.

They did finally manage to get back on track with a thrilling 3-2 win against New York City though, and they followed this up by beating Houston Dynamo last weekend. They remain winless in their four away games this season though. Seattle Sounders have won two and lost two of their four MLS games at home this season.

I don’t think Columbus Crew will get a win on Saturday. The hosts have won their last two home matches and Columbus are without a win on the road this season. However, they should be able to find the back of the net. The visitors have scored in five of their seven matches so far this season and Seattle Sounders have only kept one clean sheet so far in the campaign. This makes odds of 13/10 for a Seattle Sounders Win or Draw Double Chance and Both Teams to Score look good to me. I’m going for a 2-1 win for the hosts at 3/1 as well.
