Sevilla vs Celta Vigo Predictions
The Andalucians made their bow in the Group Stages of the Champions League on Tuesday night with a convincing 3-0 home win against Borussia Monchengladbach. It was a big relief for the Europa League winners of last season as they had only picked up 2 points from their opening 3 league games, including a crushing 3-0 home defeat against Atletico Madrid.
Sevilla were only beaten once at home in all of last season, so they’ll have been glad to immediately get back to winning ways at Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, where they are typically very strong. This won’t be easy though against a Celta Vigo side who have made an excellent opening to the campaign.
The Galicians have played some free-flowing attacking football and have taken 7 points from their opening 3 games and head into this game with only Barcelona and Real Madrid above them in the standings.
Defensively however they have looked very shaky at times and somehow managed to leak goals in the 3-3 draw at home to Las Palmas last time out. The Canary Islanders had struggled badly in that regard prior to the game and the ease with which they created chances will certainly give Sevilla much encouragement ahead of this one.
It also leads you to think there will be quite a few goals in this game. Sevilla aren’t always the best at the back either and including a pre-season friendly with Roma and the UEFA Super Cup, they’ve conceded 15 goals in their last 6 matches. With attacking the forte of both clubs here, you have to fancy there to be over 2.5 goals in this game and you can back that to be the case at 7/10.
The hosts looked much more like their old selves in midweek and although they were helped by a few dubious penalty decisions will have received a real confidence booster and you have to fancy Unai Emery’s side to get the better of Vigo, who are fresh off their worst showing of the season.
WIth neither side convincing at the back and some exciting players on show, you can see both clubs scoring but Sevilla are still certainly the stronger and at home they should be able to put a bit of distance between themselves and their visitors. Therefore consider backing Sevilla to win 3-1 at 12/1.
