      Sevilla vs Manchester City Predictions

Kevin De Bruyne’s 90th minute winner gave City a win that wasn’t completely deserved with Sevilla spurning several chances. The main change from last season’s Europa League winning side is the exit of the prolific Carlos Bacca with Kevin Gameiro stepping up to fill the void as their regular striker. The Frenchman was particularly wasteful in the first match but despite the defeat it will have given Sevilla confidence that they can ensure a different result this time around.

New signing Fernando Llorente came off the bench to score in Sevilla’s 2-1 defeat to Villarreal at the weekend and is pushing for a start here but it is likely to be a similar side to the one that lined up at the Etihad.

On home soil Sevilla are a formidable proposition and Manchester City will need to be at their best to get a result from this match. The Spaniards have won their last 10 European home games including a 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach earlier in the group. Real Madrid were the only of the 29 visitors to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan to win last year and Sevilla have won their 3 most recent home games including a 2-1 win over Barcelona.

It is Man City who are in the stronger position in the group though, with a 3 point advantage on the Spanish side, who appear to be their main rivals for qualification. Victory in Seville could be enough to secure qualification on the night for the English club depending on the result in the group’s other game but lose and suddenly their final two games will become huge.

They were unconvincing late winners again at the weekend with Yaya Toure converting a last gasp penalty to beat Norwich. Although they are top of the Premier League and have put in some dominant home displays they still have something of a point to prove in this competition and they’ve lost over half of their Champions League away games since making their debut in 2011.

City are the slight favourites with the bookies but perhaps they shouldn’t be given Sevilla regularly upset the big boys on home soil in La Liga and have a fearsome home record in Europe, admittedly in the weaker Europa League.

Backing Sevilla to win outright may be a gamble not worth taking when you can get them at Evens in the ‘Draw No Bet’ market. This isn’t a game Man City have to win and Manuel Pellegrini would most probably be very content to return to Manchester with a point, which would leave them only needing to beat Borussia at home to seal progress.

That’s not to say City will just sit back as it isn’t really in their nature but they won’t take any massive risks with the scoreline level. There is still something a little unconvincing about them in Europe though and Wilfried Bony, who is likely to again lead the line is yet to score in the competition since joining the club.

Sevilla have shown signs of returning to their best form in recent home games and look good value at 10/1 to win this 2-1.
