Sheffield United to Win and Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Sheffield United beat Bristol City 3-0 home and away in last season’s play-off semi-finals and, despite losing some key players and their manager in the summer, look equipped to beat a Robins side in transition again. At least three goals have been scored in each of the Blades’ pre-season games and they have won four out of the five.

Sheffield United 2-1

Reason for tip

Sheffield United have won seven of the last nine meetings with Bristol City and the other two were drawn. One of their three wins over the Robins last season came with a 2-1 scoreline and with some key defensive figures gone allied to Bristol City’s front-foot approach, there is a good chance of that repeating. The Blades have scored two or more goals in all five of their pre-season games and shipped at least once in four.

Sheffield United vs Bristol City Predictions

  • Sheffield United have won seven of the last nine meetings with Bristol City and the other two were drawn
  • The Blades finished 22 points better off than Bristol City last season and beat them 3-0 twice in the play-offs
  • At least three goals have been scored in each of the Blades’ pre-season games and they have won four out of the five.

Blades can begin with a win

Sheffield United beat Bristol City 3-0 home and away in last season’s play-off semi-finals and, despite losing some key players and their manager in the summer, look equipped to beat a Robins side in transition again at Bramall Lane on Saturday.

Chris Wilder oversaw a rollercoaster campaign last season, which looked like it would deliver automatic promotion until it didn’t. The Blades earned 90 points, 22 more than the Robins, and destroyed Liam Manning’s men 6-0 over two legs in the play-offs before their Wembley heartache at the hands of Sunderland.

Now both Wilder and Manning are gone with ex-Reading and Hull boss Ruben Selles taking over in South Yorkshire and Gerhard Struber at the Ashton Gate helm. Selles seems to be a bit further down the line with his preparations, although that could change if more players are sold.

More goals likely at Bramall Lane

Struber is implementing a front-foot pressing style to a squad that operated with the fewest players in the Championship last season. The majority of the Robins’ matches last season (54%) featured fewer than three goals and the proportion of low-scoring games was even higher (65%) for the Blades.

However, with the likes of defensive shield Vinicius Souza and centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic gone from Sheffield and Struber changing things up in Bristol, there is a good chance that this match crosses the 2.5-goal threshold.

At least three goals have been scored in each of the Blades’ pre-season games and they have won four out of the five. Together with their superb head-to-head record against the Robins, the hosts are a solid play to win with three or more goals in the game.
