Nottingham Forest to Win

Reason for tip

The Blades have won twice in 2024 – with one of these coming against fourth tier opposition in the FA Cup – and had their relegation to the Championship confirmed last weekend. Forest still have survival to play for and so should be able to perform when it matters most against a side whose season is effectively over.

Nottingham Forest 2-1

Reason for tip

Forest edged the reverse fixture 2-1 at the City Ground and have found the net in five of their last seven on the road. With Sheffield United three goals shy of conceding 100 in the league, the Tricky Trees could inch the Blades closer to that unwanted statistic and a 2-1 scoreline draws some appeal.

Chris Wood To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Chris Wood has scored 12 goals for Nottingham Forest in the league this season – including the winner in the reverse fixture back  in August – and has netted four times across his last seven appearances.

Sheffield United vs Nottingham Forest Predictions

  • Sheffield United are three goals away from conceding 100 in the Premier League
  • Forest are winless in eight on the road in all competitions
  • Forest edged to a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture at the City Ground

Blunt Blades unable to chop down Tricky Trees

Sheffield United’s relegation back to the Championship was confirmed last week after a dismal 5-1 defeat at Newcastle and they may struggle to put their recent winless run to bed when they host a Nottingham Forest side still firmly in contention to avoid the drop.

The Blades have just two victories across their 17 games in 2024 in all competitions – with one of these coming against League Two Gillingham in the FA Cup –  while their last win at Bramall Lane came over Brentford in early December.

Meanwhile, Forest have struggled to garner momentum as they look to pull themselves away from relegation trouble – lying just one point above the bottom three and with just one win across their last ten games – but they did claim the bragging rights in the reverse fixture back in August.

Forest have already let winnable fixtures slip through their grasp in recent weeks – against Luton (1-1) and Everton (2-0) – and will be in no mood to suffer a similar fate against a side with very little to play for. With so much on the line, an away victory draws a lot of appeal.

Wood can be difference maker for Forest

12 separate players have found the back of the net for Nottingham Forest this season and the surprising leader in the goalscoring charts for the club is New Zealand striker Chris Wood.

The Kiwi was a fringe player for Forest last season under Steve Cooper, scoring just once in seven league appearances as the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Brennan Johnson and Emmanuel Dennis were favoured ahead of him.

However, the 32-year-old has found a new lease of life under Nuno Espirto Santo this season and has netter 12 times so far this campaign – including the winner in the reverse fixture.

Both sides have struggled defensively this season and so neither should be expected to keep a clean sheet on Saturday. However, Chris Wood and co should be able to perform when it matters most and claim a vital victory, with a 2-1 winning scoreline drawing the eye.
