Tip Reasoning

  • Sheffield Wednesday have won two of their three home League One games this season.
  • The Owls have won nine, drawn four and lost four of their last 17 home league games (including 14 in Championship).
  • Oxford United have lost three of their four League One away games in 2021-22.

Owls should pass Oxford test

Sheffield Wednesday enter this weekend’s home game against Oxford with a three-game unbeaten streak after taking three points from their tough-looking trip to Wigan in midweek.

They haven’t lost any of the four league games that Callum Paterson has started and the Scot proved his worth with one of their goals at the DW Stadium.

It’s our belief that Paterson can help the Owls make it back-to-back wins when they face Oxford in a league match for the first time since their 1988 meeting in the old First Division.

Darren Moore’s side possess a solid home record since last Christmas and have won two of their three League One clashes at Hillsborough this term, albeit against sides now residing in the bottom six.

They came agonisingly close to beating Ipswich recently too – only for goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell to have a moment to forget.

Oxford haven’t been able to get much going on their travels, taking one point and scoring just three goals from their first four road trips.

Even after a 5-1 midweek win over Accrington Stanley, it would be a surprise to see them get the better of an experienced Owls side here – hence or selection of Wednesday draw no bet.

The U’s have failed to retain leads in three of their away games this season – suggesting a lack of belief or ability to hold out.

But they have scored in eight of their last nine League One away games, which is why we are favouring a correct score prediction of 2-1 to the hosts.
