FC Zurich To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Zurich have won seven games in a row and restricted Shels to just a single shot in the first leg, while racking up an impressive 21 of their own. The second leg should be similarly one-sided, and the visitors can record another clean sheet as they comfortably progress into the next round.

FC Zurich 2-0

Reason for tip

Shelbourne were 3-0 losers in Switzerland but may be able to keep the score slightly more respectable at Tolka Park, where they have won four of their last five home games. Zurich are still a strong outfit though and should be backed to net a couple on Thursday.

Shelbourne vs FC Zurich Predictions

  • Zurich ran out 3-0 victors in the first leg last week
  • Shelbourne had gone seven games without a defeat prior to that loss, winning five times in that run
  • Both teams to score has been a winning bet in five of Zurich’s last seven competitive matches and three of Shels’ last five

Shelbourne set for another tough night

Shelbourne have enjoyed an excellent domestic season, sitting three points clear at the League of Ireland summit with a game in hand, but their European adventure looks set for an abrupt end.

Damien Duff’s side were comfortably beaten 3-0 in Zurich last week and now have a mountain to climb if they are to continue in the Conference League.

They were woeful in that first leg, allowing their hosts to take 21 shots, earn nine corners and hit the target with nine of their efforts, all while managing just one shot of their own – a repeat of that performance would spell trouble on Thursday.

Swiss can sail into the next round

Shelbourne have won four of their last five home matches, so an argument could be made that they will improve on their own patch, but even some improvement is unlikely to be enough to overturn a three-goal deficit against a side that has won seven games in a row.

They looked flat in attack in Zurich and struggled to create anything meaningful, suggesting an exit is on the cards for the Reds.

Zurich will be confident in their defensive ability after limiting Shels to one shot last week and with the added bonus of having a three-goal headstart, they can sit in and defend for the majority of the 90 minutes.

Expect the Swiss side to breeze to victory once more as they extend their winning away run to four games and keep a clean sheet in the process.
