Reason For Shrewsbury vs Accrington Stanley Predictions

  • Shrewsbury are on an awful run of form, with no wins in their last eight games.
  • Accrington Stanley have won once in their last six games and sit in 17th position in League One.
  • Shrewsbury have scored just 25 goals this season, well under a goal a game.
  • Accrington have scored 1.34 goals per game so far but have averaged just a goal a game over their last five matches.

Is anything going to kickstart Shrewsbury’s season?

Shrewsbury have had a bit of a boring season, all things considered. They’ve never really been in relegation danger but, equally, haven’t flirted with the playoffs at any point either. The hosts on Tuesday will be hopeful of getting a result but their recent form doesn’t indicate that they should be too hopeful, with just three points taken from their last five games.

There hasn’t been much excitement at New Meadow this season with Shrewsbury scoring just 16 goals at home, a rate of just 1.23 goals per game. Their defensive record is identical, with just 16 home goals conceded and whilst this is a good deal better than their away form, it hasn’t give the Shrewsbury fans much in the way of goals.

Accrington look safe from relegation but need to maintain form

Accrington now sit 11 points clear of relegation with their win over AFC Wimbledon at the weekend giving them a little extra leeway over the sides below them. It was their first win since the end of December however and the side will need to ensure that it was more than a one off to avoid getting sucked back in to a relegation fight as the season draws towards its conclusion.

Accrington have found the net plenty of times this season, scoring 39 times in 29 games, a record better than two of the sides in the top six but they’ve conceded 43 times, a record that has kept them from advancing any further than lower midtable this season. A win here would allow them to leapfrog their opponents in the table and could put them on course to end the season strongly.

This doesn’t look a classic; Can either team light up New Meadow

This game doesn’t inspire much in the imagination with neither side playing scintillating football this year. We don’t think there will be many goals at New Meadow on Tuesday night and, as a result, are confident in backing the 2.5 goal line to remain intact with only one goal scored in this contest.

We think that goal goes to Accrington with Shrewsbury really struggling in the final third with just 25 goals scored all season. There isn’t much between the sides, as evidence by their positions in the table, but we’re backing Accrington to just come out on top as they look to string some results together.
