Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have not scored in five of Shrewsbury’s last six League One matches.
  • Both teams have not scored in 11 of the last 14 Bolton Wanderers league games.
  • Bolton Wanderers have failed to score in six of their last seven away league games.
  • There has been a total of one goal across Shrewsbury’s last three league fixtures.

Goal-shy teams could cancel each other out

The Montgomery Waters Meadow ought not to be the place to see many goals as two of League One’s most lacklustre attacks meet in a match neither dare lose.

Shrewsbury are six points clear of the relegation zone, but have played a game more than three of the bottom four and Bolton, who are just a point behind them but trending downwards.

Wanderers did halt a five-game losing sequence by beating a woeful Ipswich side 2-0 last weekend so it will be interesting to see if there are further signs of a turnaround after an ugly run of results. Ian Evatt’s side have not kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league this season, but there is a reasonable chance of one here because the Shrews have forgotten how to score of late.

Shrews showing some defensive cohesion

Steve Cotterill’s side have scored only once in their last three and drew blanks against two of the clubs with the worst defensive records in the division – Accrington Stanley and Crewe. But the fact that they have kept four clean sheets on the bounce is a big positive for a team in the wrong half of the table, so they are doing plenty of things right.

A both teams to score no bet here looks a belter at around Evens because the stats of both clubs suggest it should be shorter in the betting. Both teams have not scored in five of Shrewsbury’s last six League One matches and in 11 of the last 14 Bolton league games.

We’re taking a 1-0 home win as our correct score play here because Wanderers are yet to prove they can achieve consecutive clean sheets.
