Shamrock can raid Sligo

Shamrock Rovers are in form on their travels and look set to continue that trend away to Sligo on Saturday. The visitors have been winners on four of their last five Premier Division away days, and they should be backed to secure another victory at The Showgrounds.

They lead the Premier Division, having won 14 of their 24 games this season, while Sligo are ninth in the table with just five wins so far.

A second-half goal was enough for Shamrock Rovers to beat struggling Waterford in their last Premier Division game, keeping up their recent winning trend.

Sligo’s attack has been lacking bite this season, with just 12 goals in 11 home games. They are averaging just over a goal a game at The Showgrounds in the league, which is unlikely to trouble the league leaders.

The visitors also have the edge defensively. No Premier Division side has shipped fewer goals than the 21 that Shamrock Rovers have conceded in their 24 games, and they have kept four clean sheets in the last six meetings with Sligo. In contrast, it is three Premier Division games since Sligo last recorded a shutout, and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in 17 of their last 20 league games.

Sligo’s recent form has been inconsistent, with two wins, one draw and three defeats in their last six games.

Shamrock Rovers can edge this, with a 1-0 correct score in favour of the visitors looking like a decent bet. In six of the last eight Premier Division meetings between these sides at least one team failed to score, and Sligo have lost by a single goal nine times in the Premier Division.
