Slovakia to Win

Reason for tip

Slovakia can book their place in next summers EURO 2024 finals with a win on Thursday and they should be confident having already beaten Iceland in the reverse fixture and won four of their last five home matches without conceding.

Slovakia 2-0

Reason for tip

Slovakia have kept clean sheets in four of their last five home matches and welcome a side who failed to score against Bosnia earlier on in qualifying, with their only away goals coming against minnows Luxembourg and Liechtenstein. The hosts should win this comfortably without Iceland landing a blow.

Slovakia vs Iceland Predictions

  • Iceland have beaten Slovakia just once in six meetings between the sides
  • Slovakia have conceded just five times in eight group games

Hosts heading to Germany

Slovakia will be motivated knowing that a victory in Bratislava would see them book their place at the finals in Germany with a game to spare, and they should get the job done against Iceland, who they beat 2-1 back in June.

Iceland know that defeat would see their chances of qualifying disappear and that outcome looks likely as they must get the better of a nation they have beaten just once in six attempts, in a friendly win back in 2008.

The hosts have enjoyed a strong qualification campaign, with their only losses to date coming against group leaders Portugal who have won all of their eight games, scoring 30 goals and conceding just twice – both to Slovakia.

They should get the three points they need and book their place at the finals with a win.

Slovakia rear-guard to remain resolute

With just five goals conceded and five clean sheets in their eight games, Slovakia’s success must be attributed to their resolute defence and they should be strong enough to keep the Iceland attack quiet on Thursday.

The visitors are without their talisman Gylfi Sigurdsson, who scored twice in their last match against Liechtenstein, and may struggle to create chances without the former Spurs, Swansea and Everton man’s ingenuity.

This should be fairly routine for Slovakia, who will secure second spot in their section with a win and a clean sheet.
