Slovan can book spot in new-look Champions League

Slovan Bratislava have been made to work for their place in the Champions League playoffs and they can make it count with a second-leg win over Midtjylland on Wednesday.

The first leg between the sides finished 1-1, meaning it is all to play for as the two sides battle it out to reach the group stage of this season’s new-look Champions League.

Slovan managed to hold their own in Denmark last Wednesday and with home advantage on their side this time around, they can go one better and win in 90 minutes.

To reach the playoffs, they dumped out Struga, Celhe and APOEL and they had a decent run out in Europe last term, reaching the initial knockout phase of the Europa Conference League after collecting ten points from their six group fixtures.

Leaky Midtjylland worth opposing in playoff

Midtjylland, meanwhile, did not feature in European competition last term and, although they have made a decent start to the new Danish Superliga season, they have not been without their faults.

They have conceded in each of their last four games in all competitions and have already dropped points in two league fixtures in 2024-25.

This could be a tight contest but Slovan Bratislava should have enough about them to secure the win and progress to the group stage of the Champions League, while 2-1 looks like a decent correct score selection.
