Slovenia vs Latvia Predictions

Slovenia face a major challenge to return to the top two in this group. The hosts may be taking on bottom side Latvia in this weekend’s first match in their November double header, but that isn’t likely to boost their chances. They need a major turnaround in order to wrap up a place at Euro 2020 this month. Can they kick off their push with three points in their final home game of the campaign?

Slovenia are five points shy of second followed mixed form, while there are just six more points for them to claim. The hosts had been in a strong position before they lost their October meetings with North Macedonia and Austria. Those defeats have blown the hosts’ hopes of going to the Euros next summer. With no playoff place to fall back on, it could be the end of the line for the hosts if they drop points in either of their next two games.

Latvia are unlikely to put up a major fight against Slovenia, especially when you consider the visitors’ record this term. The away side come into this one with eight defeats from eight in this group. They’ve hardly been competitive, with this game likely to suffer as a result. Latvia have failed to score in six of their last seven matches, while we can see this one going the same way.

Slovenia are in mixed form in this group, but we are still backing them for a result in this clash. The hosts have scored 10 goals across their three wins in this group so far. Meanwhile, Latvia have lost every clash with other top sides in preseason, so it would be harsh to criticise him too much. As things stand, it’s easy to see Slovenia stepping up.

The visitors have lost every game in this group by at least two goals in this campaign. We struggle to see Slovenia slipping up to that kind of form. With the hosts winning three of their last five, we are going with a home win in this clash. However, we’re backing Slovenia with a -2 handicap. That shouldn’t be a major problem, with Slovenia winning the reverse fixture 5-0 and given that the visitors have conceded three or more in six of their last eight, while they’ve been failing in attack. Given that form, we think a -2 handicap is a solid bet.

Given the nature of Slovenia’s heavy win when these two sides last met we think it’s fair to expect quite the gulf this time around. We’ve seen Latvia have some really tough away trips, while Slovenia hit five in the reverse meeting. That has prompted us to back a heavy win given that Slovenia have kept a clean sheet in two of their three wins. With Latvia failing to score in six of their last seven matches we think a 4-0 home win is a good bet for this one.
