    Manchester United

      Tip Reasoning

Southampton’s poor start to the season wasn’t what everybody expected after their excellent performance last year.

They began with a draw at Newcastle, following it up with a 3-0 loss at home to Everton. Five goals conceded in two games just served to highlight their defensive problems after transfers and injuries decimated their back line.

They then had a goalless draw with Watford sandwhiched between a draw and a loss to Midtjylland in the Europa League playoffs, which saw them exit the Europa League before the group stages.

Ronald Koeman finally saw his team win after their exit though as they defeated Norwich 3-0 at St Mary’s, but they couldn’t make it two in a row and served up another goalless draw at West Brom last weekend.

Manchester United started the season with back to back wins in the Premier League, but they didn’t look convincing in either of their 1-0 victories. Their attacking failures were finally exposed against Newcastle as they played out a goalless draw.

There has been a shift in tactics since then though, and they have scored nine goals in their four games since then, including a 4-1 win over Club Brugge and a 3-1 win over arch rivals Liverpool.

They tried to show off this new attacking approach when they visited PSV in midweek, but two swift counter attacks and some heroic defending saw them lose 2-1 in their Champions League opener.

Both teams have a number of injury concerns. Wayne Rooney is still a doubt after missing the trip to PSV, whilst Luke Shaw is ruled out with the horror injury he suffered in that match. Phil Jones is also still suffering from his blood clot.

Southampton are going to be missing Florin Gardos and Fraser Forster for the majority of the season, and Ryan Bertrand and Jordy Clasie are both still absent from the team.

Past history between these sides suggest that they will both have a go. Both teams have scored in six of the last seven meetings, with Manchester United taking the win in four of these games and drawing twice.

Odds of 10/11 for Both Teams to Score look very good in my opinion, and a 1-1 draw also looks attractive at 11/2.
