PSV and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Sparta have taken one point from five previous home league games against top-six clubs. Meanwhile, PSV have won six consecutive Eredivisie matches and four in a row on the road. The leaders have kept only one clean sheet in their last nine away games, so back them to win with both teams on the scoresheet.

PSV 3-1

Reason for tip

PSV have scored exactly three goals in five of their last six away league games but kept only one clean sheet in their last nine on the road. Sparta’s home record against the top six suggests they will lose, but they have scored in three of those five matches and could net again in a 3-1 defeat.

Thrilling conclusion to Eredivisie scrap

PSV and Ajax will provide the most exciting Eredivisie finale in years this season as, for the first time since the 2016/2017 season, the outcome won’t be decided until Sunday’s final round of games.

PSV are now in pole position after Ajax slipped up with a 2-2 draw against Groningen while they were beating Heracles on Wednesday. Peter Bosz’s side now needs to ensure they equal the Amsterdam club’s result against Twente, which probably means beating Sparta Rotterdam at Het Kasteel.

Sparta sit 11th in the table, but they still have something to play for because an unlikely sequence of results could see them sneak into the postseason Conference League play-offs.

Sparta sputter against the top-six clubs

Boss Maurice Steijn was unhappy with a VAR intervention that cost his team three points after a potential winner was ruled out for handball by the Sparta goalkeeper in midweek. But their 1-1 draw at Utrecht means they have lost only one of their last 10 games — better form than Ajax’s last-day opponents Twente.

Francisco Farioli’s side buckled under the pressure of being leaders and that tag now falls on PSV, who have a trickier game than Ajax here and are away from home.

However, Sparta’s record when clubs in the top six visit is awful and they are unlikely to take a point here. Back a narrow PSV win with both teams on the scoresheet as Bosz’s side have managed only one clean sheet in their last nine away games but won each of their last four on the road.
