Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Spezia have averaged one goal for and one against per game under Leonardo Semplici, who has only overseen one defeat in his four matches at the helm. Salernitana, meanwhile, have seen under 2.5 goals scored in four of their last six contests.

Draw 1-1

Reason for tip

Salernitana and Spezia have both drawn nine matches in Serie A this season, a tally only beaten by three Italian top-flight sides. While the visitors have drawn each of their last three games, Spezia have only lost to Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina on their own turf this campaign.

Spezia vs Salernitana Predictions

  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in four of Salernitana’s last six matches.
  • Spezia, meanwhile, have hit the net just 15 times in 14 home Serie A games this campaign.
  • Spezia have averaged one goal both for and against per game since a chance of manager in February.
  • While Salernitana are unbeaten in four games, Spezia have only lost one of their last four, meaning punters should avoid the result markets.

Spezia and Salernitana not out of the woods

Decent runs of form have helped both Spezia and Salernitana keep Serie A’s bottom three at arm’s length in recent weeks, but with 11 games to play and neither side more than eight points clear of the dreaded dotted line, they may not feel safe just yet. When the teams sat 17th and 16th go head-to-head on Sunday, caution may reign, and a tight affair should be expected.

Spezia have only lost two of their last six matches, recording a win over Inter Milan as well as draws with Empoli, Udinese and Verona during that run. Since Leonardo Semplici took charge in February, Spezia have only suffered one defeat – at Sassuolo last time out – while they have averaged one goal for and against per game under him. Spezia have only scored 15 times in 14 home league matches this campaign, but only Napoli, Roma and Fiorentina have won on trips to the Stadio Alberto Picco. Maintaining that solid form in front of their own fans should be enough to keep them up.

Salernitana have, like Spezia, turned a corner following a change of manager. Paulo Sousa’s first game at the helm ended in a 2-0 defeat to Lazio, but they have since gone unbeaten in four matches, drawing the last three. Salernitana have registered two clean sheets under the former Poland boss, having previously gone 12 matches without a single shutout. Salernitana did win October’s return fixture against Spezia 1-0, and with Sousa solidifying their backline, another tight match is likely.

Goalfest not expected when strugglers meet

Spezia and Salernitana have both appeared more solid following changes in the dugout, which spells bad news for those trying to drag them into the relegation battle. We find it difficult to separate the two sides, so under 2.5 goals is our alternative play for Sunday’s game.

Meanwhile, a 1-1 draw could represent a solid correct score prediction – only three teams have posted more draws than Spezia and Salernitana in Serie A this season, with the pair both recording nine stalemates each.
