      Sporting Gijon vs Barcelona Predictions

Such an advantage would be a tough one for the Madrid clubs to overhaul given how rarely the top sides drop points in the Primera Division. Barca are unbeaten in 30 matches now in all competitions after their comprehensive 6-1 win over Celta Vigo on Sunday.

They were made to sweat a little by the Galicians with the sides still level approaching the hour-mark but a Luis Suarez hat-trick completed by a cheeky penalty move secured another big win. They’ve won 6 in a row now in La Liga and will be confident of making it 7 against struggling Sporting Gijon.

Sporting though are on a good run of form and have picked up 8 points from their last 4 league games to move 2 places and 2 points outside the drop-zone. They’ve scored 9 goals in those matches and one of their biggest weapons in the talented Alen Halilovic who netted in their 2-2 draw with Rayo on Friday. The Croatian is on loan from Barcelona and is likely to start against his parent club here with the Catalans not ones to deny their loanees the opportunity to play against them.

They could live to regret that decision though with Halilovic eager to force his way into Luis Enrique’s thinking for next season. Barca haven’t been entirely convincing on the road this season besides their 4-0 win in el clasico. One extremely surprising statistic given the quality in their ranks is that Barcelona haven’t scored more than 2 goals in any of their other 18 away games this season. Their most recent league away games have resulted in 2-0 and 2-1 wins so backing Barca to win and there to be under 3.5 goals at 6/4 looks a cracking bet here.

Sporting are usually quite forward-thinking but against Barcelona they are likely to be much more compact but do have the odd player who can produce a moment of magic so don’t rule out a home goal.

The visitors have had to win ugly at times this season on the road and this could be another one so consider backing a 2-1 away win at 8/1.
