Sporting Gijon vs CD Alaves Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

The main question when placing a bet here is, just how Alaves are going to approach it given the two legs of their Copa del Rey Semi-Final fall either side of it. The bookies clearly think it will have a big impact and have installed a poor Sporting Gijon side as clear 6/5 favourites to win it but there is strong reason to think the visitors will get a result.

Having secured a 0-0 draw in Vigo last week, Alaves do have a great chance to reach the Copa del Rey final, which would be a massive achievement for the club. They will almost certainly rotate their side here but they skillfully managed to do that during a January which saw them play 8 matches in all competitions and they managed to maintain their form in both competitions.

Therefore, there’s no reason to think they will automatically fall apart if they make changes here and they are likely to stick to the gritty defensive approach which has seen them lose just 1 of their last 15 matches in all competitions. They seem to be content with drawing games and 7 of their last 9 games have finished level. Given they are away, they will probably be content with another point here and it will ensure they maintain a significant 11 point cushion on the bottom three, given Sporting are currently in 18th place.

The Asturias side do little to justify their tag as favourites to win this match. They’ve only won 1 of their last 19 games in all competitions and have lost 10 of their last 12. The level of performance has perhaps slightly improved since Rubi took charge but he’s only collected 1 point from his 2 games so far and against a very well-organised Alaves side, they will find it tough to collect maximum points.

Against a Sporting Gijon side, that has only won one match in any competition since early September, backing Double Chance – Alaves or Draw at 7/10 looks to offer value.
