Sporting Gijon vs Malaga Predictions
Sporting have been dealt a few reality checks in recent weeks after a strong start to the season. They were well beaten 3-0 by Athletic last time out and have slipped down to 17th place as a result, 1 below this weekend’s opponents.
That game was the first they weren’t really competitive in though and all their other defeats had been by just 1 goal so they are by no means looking out of place at this level.
Malaga’s form has picked up of late with home wins against Real Sociedad and last time out Deportivo lifting the mood on the Costa del Sol. They are yet to score an away goal this season though and although they’ve had tough games including trips to the Camp Nou and Bernabeu, where they managed to draw 0-0 it’s hard to feel confident about them in front of goal, certainly on the road.
Both teams have scored in only 1 of their 9 matches so far and there have only been 12 goals in total in games involving them, by some distance fewer than any other side in the league. This is likely to be a tight game with not an enormous amount of chances and backing ‘No’ in the Both Teams to Score market at 5/6 might be the way to go here.
1 goal might be enough to settle it and although Malaga have looked more assured at home they have lost 9 of their last 11 away league games, picking up just 4 points and 3 of them came against Almeria last term who ended up getting relegated.
17th place isn’t really a fair reflection on how Sporting have done so far in their debut season at this level and they could move up a few here by securing a 1-0 win, which can be backed at 6/1.
