Sporting Gijon vs Real Betis Predictions
These were the top two in the Segunda Division last season with Betis finishing 2 points clear of 2nd place Sporting. Both meetings between the clubs were won by the away side with Betis winning 2-1 on their visit to the Estadio Municipal El Molinón in January before being on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline as Sporting clinched promotion in Seville on the final day.
You sense both clubs will be relatively satisfied with the starts they have made to life in La Liga with the clubs sharing an identical record of 5 points from 5 games. However they both were beaten in midweek by sides that are likely to be in and around them come the end of the season. Real Betis lost 2-1 at home to Deportivo on Thursday night while Sporting went down by the same scoreline away to Rayo Vallecano.
Both teams will surely see this as another opportunity to pick up an early season win though. So far Sporting’s two home games have been against Real Madrid and Valencia so this is the first one they can really look to play some more attacking football in front of their own fans, which they have done to some success on the road.
Likewise Real Betis have only played 2 away games so far and they were also against Valencia and Real Madrid. They were very strong on the road though last season, going 14 league games without defeat away from home at one point and they’ll probably be quite glad to have got those two out the way early, especially having taken a point from the Mestalla and it should allow them to focus on more winnable games of which this is certainly one.
It’s not an easy game to call but both sides will be positive at least initially and given they are quite evenly matched, there’s a good chance both will score at some point and you can back that to be the case at 5/6.
However don’t expect an avalanche of goals as the more the game goes on, the less likely it is that either manager will take big risks in an attempt to win it. Another point would continue the solid start made by both clubs and therefore consider backing it to finish 1-1 at 5/1.
