Sporting Gijon vs Valencia Predictions
Sporting Gijon held Real Madrid to a goalless draw on the opening day and the result will have given them huge confidence that they will be able to compete at this level. The same could be said for another 0-0 draw away to Real Sociedad last time out and they beat Eibar 1-0 in a friendly during the international break so clearly their defence is performing very well at the moment.
Valencia will certainly have one eye on the Champions League group stages which kick off next week but they are still almost certain to go with a full strength side here. League points are still crucial and with Sevilla not starting well, Valencia might see this as an early chance to work up on a lead on what are likely to be their most serious rivals for a top four finish.
Sporting Gijon may have picked up two very solid results but in truth were fortunate not to lose by a couple of goals at home to Real Madrid, who had peppered their goal for long portions of the game. Valencia are a very strong side these days having re-invested heavily again in the summer and despite a slow start to their La Liga campaign, should have just enough quality to breach the home defence at some point in the game.
Three of the four games involving these two so far have ended 0-0 and it’s hard to see their being many goals in this one. Sporting are unlikely to revert from their cautious approach against a side that finished in top four last year so one goal might settle this.
The visitors have by far the greater number of players who could create it so Valencia look like really good value at 13/10 to win this, especially given they seemed to cure their problems away from home in the second half of last season, when they picked up several wins on the road against bottom half clubs.
With Gijon not really offering much in an attacking sense, Valencia may feel they can boss the game if they take the lead and hold onto their advantage without much need to go chasing a second.
Therefore if you’re looking for a correct scoreline bet, certainly consider backing Valencia to win 1-0 at 6/1.
