Sporting Kansas City need to put an end to poor run of form

Sporting Kansas City will play host to Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs for the MLS cup. The home side finished the regular season just three points behind winners Colorado Rapids, meanwhile, Vancouver finished sixth and only a solitary point ahead of eighth-placed LA Galaxy.

Kansas City comes into this one in really bad form having lost their last three games and it’s their worst set of results all season. Not ideal when you’re about to compete for the MLS Cup against some of the best sides in the country. Peter Verme’s men have by no means been dominant at home, winning just nine of their 17 home games.

It’s a different story for The Whitecaps, however. They’re currently on a six-game unbeaten run and will be elated to have reached the playoffs for the first time since 2017 after having a much improved regular season. The downside is that Vanni Sartini’s men have been pretty dreadful on the road this campaign, winning a dismal 12% of their away games.

Chances at both ends

If you look at form alone then you’d think the away side would be the more likely to obtain the win. However, Real Salt Lake, the previous few games aside, have been a fairly good watch. The issue is defensively they have been opened up time and time again. With The Home sides defensive frailties and the visitors poor away record, we think the best bet is for both teams to score here and we think the hosts can get back to winning ways.
