Sporting Lisbon vs Eintracht Frankfurt Predictions
- Sporting Lisbon have seen both teams score in six of their last eight games in all competitions.
- Eintracht Frankfurt, meanwhile, have seen goals scored at both ends in five of their last six matches.
- Both teams would qualify for the round of 16 with a win, making a frantic, end-to-end affair likely.
Winner takes it all in Lisbon
Group D always appeared likely to be one of the Champions League’s most competitive pools, but few would have anticipated this state of play with one set of fixtures remaining – all four teams are separated by just two points, with no side eliminated from the competition as of yet. For Sporting Lisbon and Eintracht Frankfurt, tied in second and third with seven points apiece, the maths is simple – a win would take either team through.
Sporting CP will be relieved to approach this match in such a position after Harry Kane was controversially denied by VAR in last week’s 1-1 draw at Tottenham, and they may have the edge after thrashing Eintracht 3-0 on matchday one. The Portuguese giants only need a draw to advance, and have a good home record, winning four of their last five games on their own turf. Ruben Amorim’s side have looked shaky defensively, however, going eight games without a clean sheet, six of which have featured goals at both ends.
Given their need to attack, Eintracht – who have seen both teams score in five of their last six games – are likely to make it an end-to-end affair in Portugal. Oliver Glasner’s team have entertained this term – their tally of 25 Bundesliga goals is only bettered by Bayern Munich, but only six German top-flight teams have conceded more than their 20 goals shipped. The visitors have hit the net more often on the road (three) than at home (two) in Europe this term, and look likely to carry a real threat here.
Decisive clash to feature goals
Given the stakes and the attacking capabilities of both sides, backing both teams to find the net appears a no-brainer for Tuesday’s clash in the Portuguese capital.
Meanwhile, though Eintracht have scored 15 goals in their last six matches, Sporting have hit multiple goals in four of their last five at home, and may have enough about them to cling on for a 2-2 draw – enough to send them through.
