Tip Reasoning

  • Both teams have scored in four of the last seven St Mirren home league games.
  • Both teams have scored in six of ten Aberdeen away Premiership games in 2021-22.
  • Both teams have scored in five of the last six head-to-head meetings between the clubs.

Both teams to score a bit too big for this Buddies-Dons clash

Styles make for good matches and the contrasting approaches of St Mirren and Aberdeen could create a cracker on Tuesday night at the SMISA Stadium.

There’s potentially a bit more riding on the game than just the usual three points as Aberdeen are currently clinging on to a top six position that would put them into the more lucrative Championship group when the Premiership splits in two later this season. The hosts need to bridge a six-point gap to get into the top half of the table and a win against the Dons would be a huge result for them.

St Mirren, although down in ninth place, have the fifth-best xG in the Premiership. The reason why they aren’t much higher in the standings is because defensively, they have the second-worst xG against, so the number or quality of chances coming at both ends mark the Buddies out as a team that play an open style.

Aberdeen have seen the light through Glass

Aberdeen have taken time to come to terms with what Stephen Glass wants from them, but appear to have turned the corner in recent weeks with four wins, a draw and only one loss in their last six league games.

The Buddies took the points with a 3-2 home win in this fixture back in September when Jim Goodwin’s side came from a goal down after the Dons were reduced to ten men. Aberdeen got their revenge at Pittodrie early last month with a 4-1 scoreline.

It may be a little too much to expect another five-goal classic to be played out in this week’s meeting, but both teams to score at around evens looks a value pick in the circumstances. Both teams have scored in four of the last seven St Mirren home league games and in six of ten Aberdeen away Premiership games in 2021-22. It’s also worth noting that both teams have scored in five of the last six head-to-head meetings between the clubs.
