We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Stoke City 2-0 @ 8/1

Reason For Stoke City vs Barnsley Predictions

  • Stoke City comfortably won both meetings between the sides last term (4-0 & 2-4).
  • Barnsley are without a win in their first five games (D2, L3) and have failed to score on three of those outings.
  • Stoke’s 0-2 win at Luton on Saturday marked their third clean sheet of the season. The Potters have claimed seven points from their last three matches.

Potters to confirm superiority over Tykes

Stoke City posted their third clean sheet in five to beat Luton Town 0-2 at Kenilworth Road on Saturday and The Potters are fancied to follow-up when they entertain winless Barnsley at bet365 Stadium in midweek.

Michael O’Neill’s side climbed up to eighth in the early standings thanks to goals from Steven Fletcher and Nick Powell, building on their recent 1-1 home draw against Birmingham and a fine 0-1 success at Preston North End.

Another victory this Wednesday could well lift the workmanlike Potters into the top six and the hosts will rate their chances against a Barnsley team who are languishing third from bottom after picking up just two points from their opening five starts.

One of those points came at the weekend in a dogged display at home to Bristol City, but The Tykes were a tad fortunate to equalise deep into stoppage time via the penalty spot having been outplayed for most of the contest.

Prior to Saturday, Adam Murray’s team had netted in just one of their first four Championship fixtures and have looked desperately short of quality in attack. Michael O’Neill has his Stoke outfit well marshalled and they shouldn’t have much to fear from the South Yorkshire side on Matchday 6.

Stoke won both of last season’s meetings easily (4-0 & 2-4) and the hosts should confirm that dominance here at around evens. Their defensive record and Barnsley’s lack of goals also points towards another clean sheet for The Potters and we’re tipping up a 2-0 correct score.
