Stoke vs Sunderland Predictions

Stoke’s form has taken a major nosedive over the past few weeks, with defensive and goalkeeping injuries causing their back line to collapse and their usually respectable conceding record to take the plunge.

They come into this match having conceded four goals in each of their last three Premier League matches, with all three, unsurprisingly, ending in defeat for the Potters.

This has dampened their aspirations to achieve their best ever Premier League finish, and they are currently occupying 10th position, with seven points separating them from the personal best 8th spot.

Admittedly, they have had to play Liverpool, Spurs, and Manchester City in their last three outings, but even before that there were signs of defensive unrest. They have conceded more than one goal in five of their last six outings and in four of their last six at the Britannia.

Sunderland managed to clamber out of the Premier League relegation zone last weekend when they fought to a goalless draw with Arsenal. This allowed them to leapfrog Norwich on goal difference, but there is still a lot of work to be done if they are to stay out of the bottom three. A win at the Britannia on Saturday would go a long way to achieving safety for Sam Allardyce’s squad.

Their recent record is looking respectable at the moment. They have only lost one of their last seven Premier League games, but five of those games have ended all square.

Big Sam has successfully managed to sure up Sunderland’s defence a bit, and their attack still possesses some threat to it. They netted three goals at Norwich and have managed to score more than one goal against the likes of Crystal Palace, Liverpool, and Manchester United recently. This makes me think that they have the capability and determination to take advantage of Stoke’s poor defensive form.

Odds of 8/5 for Sunderland Over 1.5 Team Goals look very good value considering the hosts’ recent problems, and I think the visitors can get a win as well so I’m backing a 2-1 Sunderland Win at 9/1.
