Sunderland vs Aston Villa Betting Tips

Sunderland’s brief resurgence from the depths of misery looks to be well and truly over. They managed to get three wins in a period of five matches back in October and November to give them some hope.

But now they’re back to square one and come into this match on the back of five straight Premier League defeats.

These losses have left them languishing in 19^th position in the Premier League, with seven points separating them from the precariously safe zone that Swansea occupy.

There’s no doubt that Sunderland are in major trouble, but not quite as much as Aston Villa. It’s been nearly five months since the Villains have tasted victory in the Premier League.

13 of the 19 games they have played since their opening day win over Bournemouth have ended in defeat, a record which gives them a tally of just eight points. This leaves them bottom of the table, already 11 points from safety.

The visitors just seem completely incapable of getting a win and devoid of all confidence, but this will be one of their best opportunities to break out of their duck.

Scoring has been Aston Villa’s main problem, with their 15 league goals giving them the worst attacking record in the Premier League. Even Sunderland’s dismal defence shouldn’t have many problems dealing with the visitors attacking threat.

Sunderland have only scored three goals in the last five matches themselves though, and with Aston Villa seeing less than three goals in all of their last five matches I can’t see this being a high scoring match.

With these sides scoring a grand total of six goals between them in their last five matches I think odds of 3/5 for Under 2.5 Match Goals are very good value. I’m backing this along with a 1-1 draw at 11/2.
