Sunderland vs Charlton Predictions

  • Sunderland have won six out of six at home in League One this season.
  • Sunderland’s last home league game was a 5-0 success over Cheltenham.
  • Charlton Athletic have lost four of their six League One away games.
  • The Addicks have scored in all of their away League One fixtures this season.

Sunderland score enough to support with -1 handicap

Sunderland are strongly fancied to maintain their 100 per cent home record in League One when they host third-bottom Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

The Black Cats blasted four goals past Crewe Alexandra in midweek to make it eleven from their last four league games – and that run includes the stunning 4-0 beating they took at Portsmouth.

That result has already been forgotten on Wearside as Lee Johnson’s side continue to delight Sunderland fans with their front-foot football that revolves around striker Ross Stewart. The Loch Ness Drogba added to two more to his season’s tally of nine on Tuesday and will relish the chance of facing a leaky Addicks defence that has conceded 12 in their last five league outings.

Charlton can’t keep pace with opponents’ scoring

Therein lies the problem for Charlton boss Nigel Adkins because his team are still scoring themselves, they just simply cannot keep pace with what their opponents have produced. Tuesday’s 3-2 home defeat to Accrington was a typical game for them this season as they drew level at 1-1 and then unsuccessfully pushed for an equaliser after the visitors went 3-1 up.

Sunderland have only covered a -1 handicap once at home this season, but their recent goalscoring exploits indicate another is on it’s way. Charlton should provide it, even if their record of having scored in all their away games this term may mean the Black Cats need to get three to cover.

A 3-1 correct score play is advised because Sunderland have scored 11 in their last four home games to average 2.75 goals per game since August.
