      Sunderland vs Manchester United Predictions

Sunderland’s relegation woes looked to be continuing last weekend when they went two goals behind to Liverpool at Anfield, but a double from Adam Johnson and Jermain Defoe saw them claim an unlikely point in front of a sporadic Anfield crowd.

This did extend Sunderland’s winless streak in the Premier League to four matches, with that return of two points from a possible 12 keeping them well inside the relegation zone.

Sunderland currently sit in 19th position in the table, with four points separating them from the safety of 17th place, currently occupied by their arch rivals Newcastle.

Manchester United also claimed a point at the weekend after conceding an injury time equaliser to Chelsea.

This 1-1 draw made it three games in all competitions without defeat for the under pressure Louis Van Gaal, and they have actually only lost one of their last nine matches.

Five of these nine games have been victories, which has seen them progress to the 5th round of the FA Cup and continue their challenge for a top four spot in the Premier League.

Manchester United remain outside of the top four though, with their 41 point total leaving them six points adrift of 4th placed Manchester City.

Sunderland’s defence is one of the worst in the Premier League, but at home they do have the capability to limit the opposition’s scoring opportunities. They haven’t conceded more than one goal in a match at home since the start of October, with those eight games seeing a total of 15 goals scored.

This won’t make pleasant reading for Manchester United’s struggling attack. They may have managed a decent amount of goals on a few occasions this season, but largely they’ve looked devoid of creativity in the final third.

This makes odds of 7/10 for Under 2.5 Goals look attractive, and I’m going for that along with a 1-0 win for Manchester United at 11/2.
