Sunderland vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions
Sunderland have started to improve after a shocking first few games in the Premier League. They comprehensively lost their opening two games against Leicester and Norwich and looked like a team on the brink of collapse.
They managed to take a point from Swansea though, and then boosted their confidence with a 6-3 win over Exeter in the Capital One Cup. They then visited Aston Villa and came away with a 2-2 draw.
They are still at the bottom of the table though, with two points from their opening four games seeing them level with Stoke and Newcastle.
Spurs aren’t far above them with their tally of three points, but they will be hoping that the expected return of Christian Eriksen and Andros Townsend can spur them on to victory.
They lost their opening game to Manchester United, and since then have seen a two goal lead disappear against Stoke, a 1-1 draw against Leicester, and a goalless draw at home to Everton.
Sunderland haven’t won a competitive game against Spurs since 2010, and have tasted defeat in seven of the ten games they have played since then.
Neither team has kept a clean sheet in the last five meetings either, with Over 2.5 goals being scored in all of them.
Despite Sunderland’s poor form, they have actually managed to score in all of their five competitive games so far this season, whilst Spurs have only failed to net against Manchester United and Everton.
I think Spurs will win this one, they just have a greater quality about them and Christian Eriksen returning to supply Harry Kane, who boosted his confidence with an international goal, will be a real boost for them. But their shaky defence will probably let at least one through the cracks, so I think odds of 3/1 for a Spurs Win and Both Teams to Score are excellent value.
