Sutton United vs Northampton Predictions

  • Sutton have won their last five home games, and have won nine of their 12 games at Gander Green Lane this season.
  • Northampton have gone three without a win, after a three-week Covid-enforced layoff in December.
  • Sutton won the reverse fixture 2-0 in October.

Promotion hopefuls meet at Gander Green Lane

Saturday’s League Two programme sees third meet fourth at Gander Green Lane, as Matt Gray’s Sutton United, the fourth tier’s surprise package, meet Northampton. Although just one place and two points separate the two sides before this clash, with the Cobblers possessing a game in hand, the two teams come into the game in very different runs of form.

Sutton have gone four games unbeaten, winning three and netting nine goals in the process. The newly promoted outfit continue to possess one of League Two’s best home records, winning nine of their 12 games at Gander Green Lane, where they have won five league games in a row.

Northampton, who lost 2-0 at home to Sutton back in October, have not won a game since 11th December. Although they spent much of the last month on the sidelines due to COVID-19, only resuming play on New Year’s Day, the rusty Cobblers have lost two of their last three games, following up a 5-2 hammering at Swindon with a 1-0 loss to Crawley and a draw with Forest Green.

Hosts can maintain fearsome home record

Considering Sutton’s outstanding home record, and their previous victory over Saturday’s opponents, they look to be worth backing for a big win against their out-of-shape promotion rivals. Sutton’s first ever season at this level has been a fantastic success to date, and a sixth home win in a row would give them breathing space over Northampton.

A repeat of their earlier 2-0 win over the league’s fourth-placed side, meanwhile, looks a decent correct score prediction.
