Tip Reasoning

  • Swansea have lost just two of their 18 home matches this season, winning 11.
  • Cardiff are unbeaten in their last seven away trips (W4, D3) and have drawn their last two outings on the road.
  • The Bluebirds have lost just one of their 13 league matches since Mick McCarthy took over as boss in late January.

Spoils to be shared in South Wales derby

Cardiff posted their third draw in five at home to Stoke on Tuesday evening and the Bluebirds could be set for another stalemate this weekend when they travel to the Liberty Stadium to face rivals Swansea in the South Wales derby.

It was another case of two points dropped for ninth-placed Cardiff in midweek following an equally disappointing goalless draw against Huddersfield ten days ago, and the Play-Offs may now be beyond the Bluebirds who are six points adrift of sixth-placed Barnsley.

Mick McCarthy has done an outstanding job since taking over at the club some seven weeks ago, but his side are evidently paying the price for a monumental effort in February which saw them rack up six league victories on the spin.

But despite going off the boil, Cardiff are hard to oppose for this Saturday’s derby encounter, considering they have lost just once in 13 starts under McCarthy and are unbeaten in their last seven away trips.

The visitors are clearly suffering fatigue due to the packed fixture list, though the same can also be said of the Swans who hit the buffers at Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

Both sides will be desperate for a positive result this Saturday evening and the rivalry between the clubs should ensure we get a close, hard fought 90 minutes. A draw looks the most likely result with the hosts losing just two of their 18 home games this season (W11, D5) and we’re also tipping up a 1-1 correct score.
