Swansea City vs Wigan Athletic predictions in our match preview for Saturday’s Championship clash. The Welsh side are hoping to return to winning ways with a victory over the struggling Latics. Read on for our free Championship predictions and betting tips.

Swansea City to Win @ 1/1

We use stars to rate our confidence in our tips, with 3 being most confident to 1 being the least.
Swansea City 1-0 @ 7/1

Reason For Swansea City vs Wigan Predictions

  • The hosts have boosted their playoff push with a string of impressive additions.
  • Swansea are unbeaten in 7 home meetings with Wigan.
  • The Latics have lost 9 times on the road this season.
  • Wigan have failed to score in 11 of their last 14 away trips.

Return to Form for Wigan

Wigan may have finally picked up an away win in the league, but they head to Swansea with three defeats in four matches – failing to score in each loss. Meanwhile, the hosts claimed a second win in three at home with their 1-0 success over Charlton. Can they add to Wigan’s dire away form with another win this weekend? The hosts should be confident, especially with a reinforced squad to back them up.

Swans’ Brilliant Window

The Swans are certainly joining a strong window, with three great loan signings adding to the spine of this squad. They raised eyebrows in the summer when they appointed England Under 17s manager Steve Cooper, but that has paid off with three talented English stars joining on loan this month off the back of that appointment. They’ve signed Chelsea defender Marc Guehi and midfielder Conor Gallagher, while Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster boosts a low-scoring forward line.

In signing a defender and midfielder from Chelsea with a forward from Liverpool, Swansea have basically copied the blueprint which delivered success to Derby last season. However, the Rams have been awful without their three stars this season, while the Swans are already seventh. There’s huge reason for optimism at the Liberty, which has to be a factor here.

Worries for Wigan

Swansea are unbeaten in their last seven home league games against Wigan (W4 D3) since losing 6-1 in a third-tier match in April 1991. Meanwhile, Wigan have won none of their last seven league matches against Swansea (D3 L4) since winning 2-0 in January 2001. That points to another tough away day for the Latics, who have one of the worst records on the road in the division.

Wigan are looking to win consecutive away league games in the Championship for the first time since March 2015 under Malky Mackay. However, they’ve claimed only one away win all season, losing nine of 14 trips. They’ve lost to nil at all of the top six sides they’ve visted, while the Latics have failed to score in 11 Championship matches this season – more than any other side.

Swansea have won six of their last seven home games in January in all competitions, drawing the other. We expect them to continue their good form – and build on some great transfer business – with three points against Wigan. A home win is our pick in this clash, while we are also going with a 1-0 win for Swansea, having seen Wigan lose by that scoreline in 29% of their away trips so far.
