Swindon vs Bristol Rovers Predictions

  • At least four goals have been scored in five of Swindon’s last seven league and cup matches.
  • 62% of Swindon’s last eight league matches have seen at least four goals scored (League Two average – 27%).
  • Swindon beat Bristol Rovers 3-1 at the Memorial Stadium in a feisty affair last October.

Early League Two kick-off could be a high-scoring humdinger

Saturday’s early kick-off in League Two, at the request of local police, should be a cracker as promotion-chasing Swindon take on a Bristol Rovers side that are enjoying an upswing in results.

Ben Garner spent almost a year in charge of the Gas before being relieved of his duties and the Town boss gained some revenge by guiding the Robins to a comeback victory at his old stamping ground in October.

Garner felt his side, who trailed 1-0 at the break, could have scored six that day against a dysfunctional Rovers team that were playing some dire football. Joey Barton’s men have improved since then, particularly at home, but remain unconvincing when on their travels.

Swerve odds-on Swindon as Rovers could nick draw

Swindon are a much better away proposition than their record shows they are at the County Ground, so there is some trepidation about backing the hosts at a shade of odds on. Backing goals always seems to be a much less stressful way to make money on Swindon games as Garner’s side consistently play their part in some high-scoring contests.

An impressive 62% of Swindon’s last eight league matches have seen at least four goals scored, which contrasts to the League Two average of 27% over that period. And five of their last seven league and cup matches have seen over 3.5 goals land. The same may not be true for Bristol Rovers lately, where the average number of goals in their last eight games is a mere 2.88 goals – but they are still batting above the league average.

Therefore the main selection has to be on over 3.5 with the odds of around 2/1 far too tempting. A 2-2 draw seems best suited to the formlines of the two clubs as Swindon have drawn four of their last seven home games and Rovers have avoided defeat in four of their last five on the road with three draws.
