Sydney FC vs Melbourne Victory Predictions
Sydney FC managed to return to their usual winning ways last Friday when they beat Melbourne City 3-1 away from home. This was the perfect remedy for them after their unbeaten Hyundai A-League season came to an end the weekend before at Western Sydney Wanderers, and now they will be hoping to all but seal the top spot this Friday.
They face off against 2nd placed Melbourne Victory, who sit eight points adrift of leaders Sydney FC with six games left to play in the regular season. Should the hosts get the win here it would put them 11 points clear with only 15 more points to play for, putting the hosts in an even more commanding position to win the Premiership.
Sydney FC certainly know how to win as well. They have done just that in 15 of their 21 league matches, and at home they have won six and drawn three of their nine A-League games.
Melbourne Victory have returned to form recently after a bit of a slump though. Their 2-1 win over Adelaide United last time out made it three wins and a draw from their last four outings. Prior to that they had shockingly lost three games on the bounce.
Away from home it’s still a bit of a struggle at the moment for them. They beat Central Coast Mariners 3-0 in their last trip away but had lost two and drawn one of their three games before that. They still hold a huge 11 point lead over Perth Glory for the runners up spot, but realistically they need to go for the win on Friday if they are to stand any chance of clinching the top spot.
The visitors’ necessity to get the win here could make this a very entertaining and attacking game of football. Seven of Melbourne Victory’s last nine trips away have resulted in at least three goals being scored, and Sydney FC have notched an average of two goals per game at the Allianz Stadium this season.
One high value attacker to look out for on Friday is Milos Ninkovic. The Sydney FC player has scored five goals in his nine home appearances this season, including three in his last four outings at the Allianz. At odds of 9/4 to score anytime he looks the best option for our goalscorer predictions.
In terms of the overall result, I’m expecting a high scoring match here. Considering Melbourne Victory need to go on the front foot straight away, odds of 8/11 for Over 2.5 Goals look very good value for money, so that’s what I’m backing alongside a 2-2 correct score predictions at 12/1.
