      Toluca vs Gremio Predictions

This is a tough opening game for the Brazilians who will have to contend with a long flight and tricky opponents at the Estadio Nemesio Diez. Toluca qualified for the Libertadores by finishing 2nd in the 2015 Apertura in Mexico, winning 10 of their 17 games but finishing just behind UNAM.

With one Mexican club in the final last year they’ll fancy they can at least get out of the group something which they failed to do on their last outing in this competition in 2013. That was despite doing the double over Boca Juniors and their games were usually entertaining with goals at both ends in all of their home matches.

There have been goals at both ends in all of their last 5 matches too but they have only won 1 game in 2016 so far so aren’t in the best of form. They will see this as a game they can win and it would be a huge boost to their qualification chances so they are likely to be fairly positive here but Gremio have one or two dangerous players too so backing both teams to score again at 21/20 looks a decent shout.

Gremio’s 3rd place finish in Brazil’s Serie A secured the return to the Copa Libertadores and they’ve made a solid start to 2016 although they don’t play in one of the stronger state competitions.

They have qualified from the group but fallen at the last 16 stage in each of their last 3 appearances in this competition and will again be expected to get out of this group although Toluca are the favourites to win on the night.

The Mexicans haven’t been very clinical in their last few games though so backing them to finish with what would be a 5th consecutive 1-1 draw at 5/1 might be the way to go.
