Tip Reasoning

Tottenham Hotspur fans are a bit worried about their prospects for the coming season, but it’s not down to any lack of quality within their squad. They have managed to keep hold of all their star players, but a huge segment of their squad of regulars were called up for action in the World Cup, leaving them potentially very tired at the beginning of a long season.

Many of them made it to the latter stages of the competition too. Hugo Lloris was in the France squad that won the most coveted prize in football, whilst the Belgian contingent of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen, and Mousa Dembele were all in the semi finals. Add that to Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, and Harry Kane from England and it is a potential concern.

However, their heavily weakened travelling squad for this International Champions Cup have somewhat eased their fears. They thrashed AS Roma 4-1 in their first outing last week, and followed it up at the weekend with an impressive fightback against Barcelona to end the game 2-2. Eventually they were beaten on penalties, but it was undoubtedly a decent performance.

AC Milan don’t have as much to worry about in the selection department, although they are still travelling without Ivan Strinic, Carlos Bacca, and Ricardo Montolivo. Their list of available players is much longer though, and includes names such as Gianluigi Donnarumma, Leonardo Bonucci, Hakan Calhanoglu, Suso, Fabio Borini, Andre Silva, and Nikola Kalinic.

This didn’t help them much against a heavily weakened Manchester United side though. They were held to a 1-1 draw by the Premier League runners up, and lost the game on penalties after a marathon shootout which ended 9-8.

In all honesty, Tottenham have looked a far better side than their Italian opponents so far this summer, and Milan’s record in the International Champions Cup doesn’t bode well for them either. They have won just two of their last 11 games in it, drawing three times and losing the remaining six. We think a Tottenham Win here looks excellent value for money, so that’s what we’re backing along with a 2-1 correct score predictions.
