A tough encounter in Toulouse

Newly promoted Toulouse have made a great start to the new campaign with four points from the first possible six, and are arguably sharper for this clash having played last weekend while Toulouse have still only played a single game due to last weekend’s postponement.

Currently unbeaten in 16 of the last 17 competitive home games, Toulouse look to be carrying on the momentum which saw them promoted from Ligue 2 last season. While a draw against Nice ended Toulouse’s eight game winning streak here, that was arguably a much tougher game on paper than this.

Lorient could struggle against the new boys

Since returning to the top-flight themselves back in 2020/21, Lorient have had a torrid time against other newly promoted teams with just one win across six such encounters in league action (W1, D2, L3).

While a 2-1 win at Monaco in their opening game was impressive, the hosts that day had their minds on European qualifying and were arguably there for the taking. However, the visitors are at least afforded the chance of winning back-to-back away league games to begin a top flight season for the first time ever here.

We predict that won’t be the case though, and that Toulouse will be the most likely winners. As for the correct score, we’re sticking with a hard fought 2-0 home win.
