Toulouse vs Troyes Predictions

Toulouse have failed to learn from the mistakes that almost led to their relegation last season and find themselves in even worse trouble approaching the end of this campaign. They come into the penultimate game of the Ligue 1 season in 19th position, three points adrift of the safety of 17th placed Gazelec Ajaccio.

Fortunately for Toulouse, they have the easiest run in of the three relegation candidates, with Reims having to face Marseille and Lyon and Gazelec Ajaccio hosting Paris Saint Germain this weekend. Toulouse’s home match against Troyes and visit to Angers looks comparatively easy, but they still have to win at least one of these matches.

They come into this match having picked up two points from their last three matches, although prior to this they did show that they were capable of winning matches with a run of three wins in four matches. All of these wins were on home turf as well, so their recent home record looks respectable with three wins and one defeat in their last four matches.

Troyes were bound for relegation quite some time ago. They managed to go the entirety of the first half of the season without a win in Ligue 1, eventually picking up their first league victory of the season at the end of January.

There hasn’t been a massive improvement since that duck was broken either, and they come into this game with just three Ligue 1 wins to their name this season and having lost nine of their last ten outings.

This unsurprisingly leaves them rock bottom of the table with a meagre 17 points from their opening 36 matches. There is no hope of them improving their position, so they are just playing for pride now.

Pride might be hard to come by for them though. Troyes have lost five away matches on the trot now and have conceded 12 goals en-route. To be fair to them, they have managed to score in five of their last six trips away, and Toulouse have conceded in eight of their last 12 home matches. This makes Both Teams to Score look attractive at odds of 17/20, so I’m backing that.

Toulouse should be able to get a pretty comfortable win though. They have a supreme talent in Wassim Ben Yedder, who already has 16 goals this season despite playing for a relegation threatened team, and Troyes defence is shocking away from home. I’m going for a 4-1 win for Toulouse at 14/1.
