Tip Reasoning

  • Tranmere have won four of their five League Two games at home this season.
  • Colchester have failed to score in 14 of their last 18 away League Two games.
  • Tranmere have the best defensive record in the EFL (10 games, 4 goals conceded).
  • Colchester have not beaten Tranmere since 2012 (Three draws, five defeats in last eight meetings).

Fear not for Friday night favourites

Friday night football returns to the Wirral when ninth-placed Tranmere Rovers welcome Colchester United, currently 18th in League Two, to Prenton Park.

Tranmere are going well at the moment with last Saturday’s 2-1 home success over Crawley continuing a run of four games without defeat.

That sequence sounds even more impressive when you consider that the only match they failed to win was at League Two pacesetters Forest Green.

Micky Mellon’s men are in possession of the best defensive record in the EFL right now with only four goals conceded through their first ten games and it’s hard to foresee the U’s having much to say about that.

Colchester failed to register an away goal during a spell of almost five months last season and things are only slightly better this term.

Hayden Mullins’ side have registered two 0-0 draws on their five away trips so far, but are actually still unbeaten away from home coming into this.

However, if their meek surrender to Salford on Saturday is anything to go by, they aren’t in the form to shut up shop against a Tranmere team that has won four of five home games.

We’re taking Rovers to run out 2-0 winners and recommend taking the nice odds available about a Tranmere win to nil, which would have landed in three of their four home league wins to date.
